Maine Juvenile Treatment Network (MJTN)
What it is:
The Maine Juvenile Treatment Network (MJTN) is a coordinated statewide initiative that provides early identification, screening and referral for adolescents with substance abuse issues. Our goal is to proactively reach youth before they encounter a major substance abuse problem so that we can streamline treatment services when it is clear that a youth is in trouble.
How it Works:
A parent, physician, school, police or probation officer identifies a youth with a potential substance abuse problem, and refers the youth to a MJTN administrator. The administrator is trained to assess the problem using the Juvenile Automated Substance Abuse Evaluation (JASAE).
If the JASAE indicates a need for additional assessment, the youth is referred to local treatment providers for further evaluation and treatment, if needed. The MJTN also strives to remove any barriers to treatment, and will pay for treatment if the adolescent does not have insurance or MaineCare.
Where it is:
The Maine Juvenile Treatment Network is available throughout the state.
How do I access it?
If you feel your child may need an assessment for substance abuse, please call us for a referral to a MJTN administrator in your area. Our toll free number is 1-800-269-0016. Press 1 for the MJTN extension. Visit www.JuvenileTreatmentNetwork.org for more information.
Maine Gambling Addiction Network (MEGAN)
What it is:
The Maine Gambling Addiction Network (MEGAN) was created to ensure problem gamblers (adult & adolescents) have access to treatment services from trained counselors, and the financial resources to undergo treatment. Establishing MEGAN within two years of the first casino opening in Maine is forward thinking and a smart step in ensuring that all Mainers will be able to get treatment, if needed.
How it Works:
MEGAN coordinates funding for treatment and can pay for up to 16 treatment sessions when insurance or MaineCare will not cover it. Counselors who have received their gambling and addiction treatment certification from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse use a simple, four question tool to determine whether a client has a gambling problem. Once a potential problem is identified, counselors give a more comprehensive gambling assessment to determine the level of the problem.
Where it is:
MEGAN is available throughout Maine at several locations.
How do I access it?
