Youth Development Centers
Youth Development Centers
Maine has two youth development centers: Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland and Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston.
Research continues to show that nationally more than 75% of incarcerated youth have substance abuse problems, and a large percentage of those also have emotional/mental health issues. In the State of Maine more than 85% of youth committed to Long Creek and Mountain View present with a substance abuse disorder. There is a very high correlation between substance abuse and criminal behavior among adolescents.
Day One provides substance abuse screening & assessments, and individual, group and family treatment services for youth. Additionally, Day One assists in delivering an intervention group program that is designed for ‘self-improvement and change’. The focus is on cognitive skills development and the integration of these skills into daily living.
Assistance and referral services are also offered at the time of discharge to help with their transition back into the community.
